Brad with Poppie...

Brad stayed with me today. We went to "Poppie's" McDonalds for lunch and play (2 hours).
We then came back home to go swimming. We were in the pool for 30 minutes, then it started to rain. So, we had to get out when it started to thunder.

When it stopped, Frank was here to pick Brad up to go home. Needless to say Brad was not a happy camper. LOL!!!!!

2 hours break until Natalie gets here for her visit.

Trip to Independence

This is a picture of the Temple in Independence, MO. The second picture is of the spire inside looking up. We had a good time visiting the area we grew up in. I was the co-tour guide (kind of).

We also went to the Liberty Jail. This was where Joseph Smith was jailed for trumped up charges during the winter of 1833-1834.

We had Sunday morning worship service in the Temple sanctuary.

Played minature golf at Cool Crest and I tied for 1st (15 players). Susan got 5!!!!! hole-in-ones! But I got the free game. LOL!!!

Overall we had a good time touring, visiting, laughing, and just having a good time with our church friends.

Independence, Missouri

Community of Christ

International Headquarters

The Temple and Auditorium

Susan and I are in Independence, Missouri this weekend. We are going to tour some of the historic sites of the Community of Christ Church in the area, with others from our home congregation. The picture is of the Temple (foreground) and of the Auditorium. The Temple was built about 10 years ago and is dictated to world peace. The Auditorium was built from 1930's and finished in 1958.

Kansas City

I left New York Wednesday evening for Kansas City. Susan's mother had taken aturn for the worst. I have spent Thursday and Friday with her at the hospital and the nursing home. They transfered her to a nursing home Thursday noon. She is doing better but still needs help moving around and staying awake. Her spirits are good and mind is clear except for when she first wakes up she is a little confused. Susan and I will be here until Sunday evening to help her sister.

Lockheed L-1011 Tri-Star

This is a picture of one of the best flying jet aircraft ever produced. I was first a mechanic for TWA in Kansas City in the L-1011 hanger. Then I transferred to St. Louis, to the Flight Operations Training Center, to be a Flight Operations Training Specialist (Ground School Instructor).
Then I was hired by American International Airways (Kalitta Air) as a Flight Engineer/Ground School Instructor.
We had 10 of these L-1011-250 Tri Stars. Two (2) passenger aircraft and the other eight (8) were converter to freighters.

I taught systems ground school to the majority of the AIA pilots and engineers.

The autopilot system is the same autopilot system used on the space shuttle. The horizontal stabilizer wing area is the same size as the wing area on the DC-3.

There were only 248 of these aircraft built by Lockheed.

By the way, I am still in NY waiting for Friday, so I can go home.

JFK

Arrived in New York yesterday. The company had a limo drive me the 3 hour and 45 minute drive from Dover, Delaware to John F Kennedy Airport on Long Island.

The driver was a very nice retired Army paratrooper. 86th Airporne.

Just sitting here waiting for scheduling to call with a trip. Talked with a couple of other crew members, and they comfirmed that the flying is pretty slow for now. But things ought to pick up next month as the holiday season is fast approaching.

Still in Oscoda

The motel we were staying at in Oscoda, MI had me in the Honeymoon Suite. All other rooms had internet but this one. Guess they figure if your in the Honeymoon Suite you won't need internet service LOL!!!!!
We had to move to a different motel for today and tomorrow. Nothing much happening.
We were able to bar-b-q on the beach of Lake Herron the last 2 nights.
New blog header coming soon....

Sitting in Newark...

Got into Newark last night. I was supposed to lake another airplane from here to Oscoda , Michigan this afternoon, but the trip is delayed until tomorrow afternoon. Seems like the plane is broke in Brussels, Belgian.

They are waiting for some parts. Scheduling said that they sent me a fax with the changes, but as usual the Holiday Inn here at the Newark airport as yet given me the fax. And that was 4 hours ago!

Just a taste of what I go through each day , each week, each month, each year. Every time I go back to work I keep thinking that things have changed....

But they don't.....

Goodbye Diamond Head...

Well, we left Hawaii for who know's how long. Next stop, Hilo. We took an engine for US Airways B757. Then off to LA.

I leave for Newark at 1:00am in the morning.

Was not told of the trip to Newark until we had landed at LAX Wednesday midnight. Then I was told about the trip to Newark and that it was leaving at 7:00 am Friday. After I woke up at 9:00 am Thursday and called scheduling, they hurriedly informed me that they had changed my departure time to 1:00 am local on Friday. Oh well, just another day at Kalitta Air.
